Nigerian Cybersecurity Expert Warns Against Using Free Public Wi-Fi

A Nigerian cybersecurity expert, David Dada, has warned against the use of free public Wi-Fi in the country. Dada, an information security expert, revealed that users who access the internet through free Wi-Fi unknowingly expose their passwords and other important bank details to hackers.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Dada explained that digital footprints are left behind once individuals use mobile devices to access free Wi-Fi, which can be used by hackers to access sensitive information.

Dada further warned that hackers could set up what he described as the ‘evil twin’ network and make it free, thereby luring unsuspecting users to give up their personal information. He advised users to be mindful of free Wi-Fi in public places and avoid logging in to secure their online transactions. Dada’s warning comes as the Nigerian government is pushing for increased cybersecurity measures in the country, with the recent launch of a National Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy document.

The Nigerian government has been working to improve the country’s cybersecurity infrastructure and has called on Nigerians to be vigilant while using the internet. The government has also launched a National Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign to educate citizens on the risks of cybercrime and how to protect themselves online. Dada’s warning adds to the growing concerns over cybersecurity in Nigeria, as cybercrime continues to rise in the country.
