BAYELSA NATIONAL ASSEMBLY SEEKS PRESIDENTIAL INTERVENTION ON FLOOD

Members of the National Assembly from Bayelsa State have called on the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to declare a state of emergency for the floods that have ravaged parts of the state.

This is just as the House of Representatives Committee on Ecological Fund has commenced an investigation on how beneficiaries of the Ecological Fund have utilized funds released to them after floods that have submerged many communities across the country.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Monday, the lawmakers, who read a joint statement titled, ‘Press release on the devastation caused by the 2022 flood in Bayelsa State,’ noted that the Bayelsa Caucus was fully abreast with the “multi-faceted and perilous times confronting Bayelsans, as induced by the perennial floods that have sacked homes and entire communities.”

“Guided by the untold suffering this has spelled on our people, we hereby empathize with all victims across the state, assuring them that as representatives of the people, we are in unison, working assiduously in partnership with relevant ministries, departments, and agencies to bring succor to the affected populace,” they said.
