OGUN YOUTHS CALLED TO PROACTIVENESS, ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT IN POLITICS
The senior Special advisor to the Ogun State Governor On Special duties and SSDG, Hon. Damilola Otubanjo has called on the youths of Ogun state to saddle up to their responsibilities and participate actively in the political affairs of the state.
“The youths of this state must wake from their slumber, it is time we become decision makers in the state, but to complete that you must first have your PVCs ready to vote in credible leaders in the forthcoming elections.
It doesn’t end there, there should be a grassroot enlightenment accompanying the empowerment that we all seek, engage in meaningful ventures, the days of being dependent are over” she said
She said this while speaking at the Maiden Edition of the Town hall meeting in National Security and Youth Development, which was organized by the Ministry of Sports and Youths together with Ogun state Caucus of Nigerian Youth Parliament.
The event which was hosted on the 10th November 2022, at Valley view Auditorium, Government House, Abeokuta, played host to over 500 participants and scores of dignitaries including the Commissioner for youth and sports.
Also speaking, Barr. Whyte Habeeb Ibidapo, further cautioned the youths against indulging in social vices like cultism which not only taints their name but ultimately might lead to an untimely death, thereby limiting them from reaching their full potentials.
He encouraged the females to participate actively in Unionism, as the struggle was a fight for all and not genfer based.
Lamide Lawal, the Special Advisor to the Ogun state Governor on Youth Affairs, expressed the government’s readiness to work hand in hand with youths in fostering the development of the state.
He, however, expressed displeasure at instances where embattled youths will take to the streets to express their grievances in the form of protests without first bringing it to the notice of the government, he said this citing the recent protest staged by students of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic over supposed increment in school fees.
He enjoined youths to be more civil and organized in coordinating their affairs, rather than creating Chaos and disrupting public peace.
Reacting, the Commissioner for youths and sport, Dr. Kehinde Oluwadare, appreciated the conveners of the program, noting that it was the first of its kind in the history of the state.
Oluwadare promised to use his office to sponsor the development of youth across the state, most especially now that the state has a governor who listens to his people.
During the interactive section, participants called the attention of the government to the insecurity in certain areas of Ogun state.
A Student of Mapoly also pleaded with the school management to lift the ban on social activities in the school as “all work no play makes Jack a dull boy”
