Ogun diaper manufacturing company sacks 200 staff, massive protest ensues

Some workers of a diapers manufacturing company, Hayat Kimya, on Wednesday protested the sacking of 200 staff by the company.

Hayat Kimya is a manufacturer of eco-friendly baby diapers and sanitary pads in the Nigerian market.

The company had fired the workers on Monday without providing justifiable reasons for the decision.

The protesting workers were seen at the front of the company’s plant in the Agbara community of Ogun State, demanding immediate reinstating of their sacked colleagues.

“Where do they want me to start to take my certificate and be looking for a job? This is injustice; massive sacking” one of the protesters said.

In Nigeria, the unemployment rate is estimated to be around 33 percent. This figure was projected to be at 32.5 percent in the preceding year.
