The governor addressing press men stated how shocked, surprised and angry he is at such a dastardly act.

“I’m here this Tuesday morning to have an on spot assessment of what solely happened following the report on what we all saw and heard about the protest that rocked the city of Sagamu yesterday.

“We arrived here, and my first stop over was at the IBEDC, from there I went to the local government secretariat and now proceeded to the high street of Akarigbo to look at the banks that were affected.

“What I’ve seen this morning has totally broken my heart, and I’m completely speechless. This was a protest that posed to be on the Naira design or the scarcity, but what I’ve seen this morning does not tell me that there were no other motives behind this protest because how do you explain a Naira redesign protesters going to the IBEDC. What correlation do they have?

“This is purely a case of looting. Vehicles were destroyed, and the CP told me they caught some miscreants at the zenith bank attempting to break into the strong room.

“What surprises me is that why do this happens in Sagamu?, I was here on campaign with members of my party on Sunday and there was no violence nor argument, it was so peaceful. What now happened in less than 24hrs of the APC successful rally in Sagamu that mayhem was now unleashed on the good innocent people of Sagamu.

“Ogun state are not violent people, even during the end SARS, we were the less affected state, and we’re declared peaceful at that particular time. What myself and the Kabiyesi have seen this morning is a such that has never happened in the history of the state before.

“It is obvious to us that this goes beyond the issue of Naira redesign, it’s obvious that this is politically motivated. This is most unfortunate, particularly now that the election is fast approaching. It’s obvious to me that some elements are determined to unleash mayhem to cause voter apathy or even make sure the election don’t hold.

“We are going to go after every person who is either directly or indirectly associated with this heinous crime. We’d find them, arrest them, and they will face the full wrath of the law. We will make examples of them because this is not who we are in Ogun state.

“I sympathize with every bank affected, please accept my sympathy. The state government will provide every necessary support to them and everyone affected.

“I want to crave indulgence of our people in Sagamu, please go about your businesses peacefully, as I’ve been assured by our law enforcement agencies. There are enough detachment of the police, military, SSS and Amotekun here in Sagamu. They will be patrolling and ensure law and order in Sagamu. Anyone found culpable will be seriously dealt with.

“On that note, I want to thank all those that responded swiftly. The commissioner of Police, Frank mbah. I also would like to thank the members of the public and the honorable chairman of the Sagamu Local government.

“I can tell you that they are obviously intimidated by what happened on Sunday, but let me assure you that elections will hold on Saturday, February 25th” the governor concluded.
