Governor Seyi Makinde signs Amendment Bill to Chiefs Law of Oyo State into law

Earlier today, Governor Seyi Makinde signed the Amendment Bill to the Chiefs Law of Oyo State into law. The amended law allows for the smooth and effective running of the Traditional Council in Oyo State and will lead to a reduction in litigation. The governor expressed his gratitude to the honorable members of the Oyo State House of Assembly for their speedy passage of the Bill and for their continued support of his administration.

The Amendment Bill to the Chiefs Law of Oyo State has been a subject of controversy in the state. The bill was passed by the Oyo State House of Assembly in April 2023 and has been awaiting the governor’s assent. The amended law will help streamline the operations of the Traditional Council in the state and will make it easier for traditional rulers to carry out their duties.
