25-Year-Old Man Takes His Own Life in Osun Amidst Struggles with Hardship
A tragic incident took place in the Dagbolu community of Osogbo Local Government Area in Osun State, where 25-year-old Joseph Abodunrin reportedly took his own life. According to reports, the rising cost of living in the country had a profound impact on his mental health.
Joseph’s cousin, Abodunrin Grace, confirmed his death on Thursday through a post on X, reflecting on the pain of losing her brother. She described him as a person who always smiled and offered encouragement to others, hiding his own struggles beneath a facade of joy. “I’m shattered by this news. You were an incredible brother and always uplifted us, yet you felt you had to voice your pain in a way we never anticipated,” she wrote. “You hid your suffering so well, and now we are left grappling with the loss.”
In her poignant message, she emphasized the importance of mental health and encouraged others to take care of themselves amid life’s challenges, noting the heavy toll that societal pressures can take on well-being.
Prior to his death, Joseph had expressed thoughts of suicide in his tweets. He often mentioned his concern for his younger siblings and how their optimism and dreams prevented him from acting on his thoughts. In a tweet dated January 31, 2025, he stated, “If not for my siblings, I would not commit suicide. I don’t want to crush their hopes with my death.”
On the day he ended his life, March 24, he posted several tweets conveying his struggle. “I’m sorry I failed you all. I just couldn’t do it anymore… You won’t understand!” he wrote. He ended his heartfelt message with a farewell, stating, “My passwords are in the first page of my diary. Goodbye!”
In a previous tweet from March 9, he expressed doubts about the value of continuing to fight for his life, underscoring the mental agony he was enduring.
As of now, Joseph’s body has not yet been recovered, despite him sharing the location of the incident. It has been reported that the site in Dagbolu is no longer active. The Osun State Police Command informed that they were not aware of the situation but would provide updates if any developments arise.
Joseph celebrated his 25th birthday on February 6, 2025, just weeks before this heartbreaking event occurred.
