48 Cultists Renounce Membership, Surrender Arms, Ammunition in Sagamu

The Akarigbo and paramount ruler of Remo, Oba Dr. Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, ogun state commissioner of police, SA to the governor on security matters and many other dignitaries gathered at the Akarigbo’s palace today, March 26, 2024, for the public display of ammunition and arms surrendered by more than 48 cultists in Sagamu.
The Akarigbo during his introduction stated that these ammunition have been surrendered by repentant cult members in Sagamu who have renounced their membership and wants to be integrated back to the community.
The Akarigbo acknowledged the contribution of all security agencies in Remo and ogun state at large, stating how responsive they’ve been in achieving the return of peace to Sagamu and its environs. The king reiterated that crime has no benefits, except from death and incarceration.
The SA to the Ogun state governor on security, Assistant Inspector General of Police Olusola Subair (retd.), further pleaded that what’s experienced in Sagamu today can be replicated in other parts of Remo and ogun state at large. He further explained that efforts are still on to recover more of the ammunition from them.
The Commissioner of Police Ogun State Police Command, CP Abiodun Mustapha ALAMUTU appreciated the Akarigbo for his unrelenting Efforts in bringing back peace to the land.
“The purpose of this is for all of them to turn a new leave. A way of engaging them positively will be devised so they’d have something doing And will stay busy. Additionally, this is the first stage where all repentant cultists will be profiled, while the next stage will be assisting them in a way that they will be of importance to the community, and possibly become part of the vanguard of the police to preaching against cultism and its effects.”
“Ordinarily, we are supposed to have paraded them, but for some certain reasons, we have decided to be silent about that for now while we continue with our profiling. Over 48 youths have renounced their membership, and those that had arms have surrendered it”.
“Aside from those that are licensed to bear firearms, no one is expected to carry arms. After this, anyone caught with arms will be treated like a criminal that he/she is.”
“Before now, we’ve tried different approaches, and we saw that they were not really working. That’s why we are using this approach, and we can evidently see the results. What’s important to us is that they understand why they need to turn a new leave. And we also want to encourage the members of the community not to treat them as an outcast.” Alamutu stated.
Weapons Surrendered include 1 pump action,4 double barrels,7 single barrels, 2 English pistols, 4 locally made pistols and
35 cartridges.
