NDLEA Arrests 34 Suspects in Sweep Operation on Illicit Drug Dens in FCT
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), FCT Command, has announced the arrest of 34 suspects in a sweep operation on illicit drug dens in the territory. The FCT Commander of the agency, Kabir Tsakuwa, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja.
The operation, which was initiated on May 8, was named “Operation Tsaro” and aimed to shut down drug centres and apprehend dealers in the FCT. Tsakuwa explained that the operation was necessitated by the need to combat drug abuse, especially as Nigeria prepares for handover to a new administration.
While some of the arrested individuals have been charged and taken to court, others who are users are undergoing counseling sessions. Tsakuwa added that the raid would continue until the agency effectively eradicates hard drugs from circulation, in order to reduce criminal activities in the FCT.
