Gas Explosion Injures Four in Lagos

A gas explosion at Ijaiye beside the Apostolic Church in the Agege area of Lagos State has injured four persons, three females and one male. One of the cylinders was alleged to have leaked, causing the explosion to come from a petrol store. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reports that rescuers were able to stop the succeeding fire from spreading to neighboring stores and other structures.

The injured suffered second-degree burns and were taken to the hospital for treatment. The inferno has been completely put out by the combined effort of LASEMA LRT, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

The incident occurred at about 10:30 am on Monday, June 26, 2023. The sound of the explosion was heard miles away, causing panic among residents in the area. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, but it is believed to be due to the improper handling of the gas cylinder. The Lagos State Government has urged residents to always adhere to safety guidelines when handling gas cylinders to prevent such incidents from occurring.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has called on residents to be more safety-conscious, especially in the use of gas cylinders. The Director-General of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said that the agency has intensified its public enlightenment campaign on the safe use of gas cylinders.

He urged residents to always ensure that gas cylinders are properly maintained, stored in well-ventilated areas, and used according to the manufacturer’s instructions. He also advised residents to report any suspected gas leakages to the appropriate authorities for prompt action.
