Ogun Woman in Custody for Attempted Drowning of Five-Month-Old Daughter

The Ogun State Police Command reported on Monday that 30-year-old Olubunmi Ajayi was apprehended on Sunday for allegedly attempting to drown her five-month-old daughter, Imole Anifowose, in the RSS River, Sagamu.
According to a statement from SP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the state police command, Olusola Sonaya, who happened to be near the river, intervened and rescued the baby after her mother threw her into the water.
The infant was promptly taken to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, for medical attention and is reported to be in stable condition as of the latest update.
The statement outlined the incident, stating, “A five-month-old baby, Imole Anifowose, is now in stable condition after Olusola Sonaya of RSS River Sagamu averted a premeditated drowning by the mother.”
Detailing the attempted murder case on January 21, 2024, at around 17:30hrs, the statement continued, “Oluwabunmi Ajayi, aged 30 years, was sighted by a humanitarian dropping her little child into the river. The person who witnessed the act raced to the river and rescued the baby from drowning.”
It further revealed that the mother is under observation to assess her mental health, and efforts are underway to contact relatives or the husband to ensure appropriate welfare for the baby in the hospital.
