Ben Obi Expresses Concerns Over Nigeria’s State and Offers Suggestions for President Tinubu

Chief Ben Obi, a prominent figure in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former Political Adviser to the National Security Adviser, shares his deep concern about the state of Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In an interview, Obi expresses disappointment in the current governance, citing issues such as poor planning, provincial appointments, and economic challenges.

Obi emphasizes the need for President Tinubu to broaden his scope when appointing officials, urging him to consider individuals with national perspectives and vast experience. He criticizes the administration’s handling of economic policies, especially the abrupt removal of the fuel subsidy without proper planning, leading to adverse effects on the economy.

The PDP leader underscores the importance of addressing the suffering of the Nigerian people, criticizing the blame game between political parties. He calls for an end to the blame game and advocates for urgent solutions to the economic challenges facing the nation.

Discussing the 2023 elections, Obi defends the PDP’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, stating that an Atiku presidency would have avoided the current situation. He blames the party’s loss on internal issues, including the departure of key figures like Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Obi also highlights challenges faced by the PDP in proving electoral infractions, pointing out the difficulty in gathering evidence within the specified time frame. He criticizes the judiciary’s handling of election disputes, particularly the requirement for a witness for every piece of evidence and the concept of substantial compliance.

In response to the merger talks among opposition parties, Obi acknowledges ongoing discussions and progress. He expresses hope for a united front against the challenges facing the country.

Finally, drawing from historical experience, Obi suggests that President Tinubu should convene a meeting with former Presidents, National Security Advisers, and Defence Chiefs to address the economic, political, and security issues. He stresses the importance of practical and productive discussions to guide the nation through its current challenges.
