Ogun State Boosts Food Security with 200-Hectare Rice Farm Project

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to enhancing food security in Nigeria, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision. During the commissioning of the OGSTEP Intervention Support Project, the governor emphasized the dedication to increasing local rice production on a 200-hectare farm.
“This initiative aligns with our ‘Building Our Future Together’ agenda, which focuses on agriculture as a tool for economic development, job creation, and poverty alleviation,” the governor stated.
The project, supported by OGSTEP and the World Bank, aims to boost rice production significantly, targeting an annual yield of 3 billion Naira from 200 hectares. Over 30,000 farmers, including men, women, and youth, are participating in the program.
“This project is not just about rice; it’s about empowering our people and securing the future of Ogun State,” the governor added.
The state government is providing advanced agricultural techniques, quality inputs, and capacity-building programs to ensure the sustainability and success of the farmers.
The governor expressed gratitude to stakeholders, especially the farmers, and announced plans to expand the initiative to 2,000 hectares, further contributing to Nigeria’s food supply and economic growth.
