Kidnapped Babcock University Staff Regains Freedom After Ordeal

Elizabeth Uruakpa, a 66-year-old widow and Assistant Chief Nursing Officer at Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan Remo, Ogun State, has been released by her abductors after a harrowing experience. She was kidnapped last week while returning from church service in the Ilisan Remo area.

According to reports, Uruakpa was intercepted by armed men in an unregistered Red Toyota Camry, who blocked her Honda CRV and whisked her away. However, she was released on Thursday and dropped off at the university gate.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed her release, stating that Uruakpa is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. “One Elizabeth Uruakpa, a nurse at Babcock UTH, Ilishan, who was abducted, has now been released and is presently in the hospital on treatment. Investigation ongoing,” Odutola said.

Although the exact amount paid as ransom is unclear, her abductors had initially demanded N50m. The university’s Director of Communication and Marketing, Joshua Suleiman, also confirmed her release, stating, “I have heard about the news. I heard that she was dropped off at the university gate; though, I have not seen her.”
