Nigerian Senate Approves Bills Establishing Federal Universities in Ilaro and Kachia

The Nigerian Senate has given the green light to the establishment of two new federal universities: the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro, in Ogun State, and the Federal University of Allied Sciences, Kachia, in Kaduna State.

This development was announced on Tuesday when the bills for the universities’ establishment passed the third reading.

According to Senator Dandutse Mohammed, Chairman of the Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFUND, the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro, will be an upgrade of the existing Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro. The bill was sponsored by Senator Solomon Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, and was initially considered in the 9th Senate.

In the same vein, the Senate approved the relocation of the Federal University of Allied Sciences from Manchok to Kachia, as recommended by the committee. This change was proposed by Senator Sunday Katung, representing Kaduna South.

Following a clause-by-clause consideration of the reports, the Senate passed the two bills for third reading. Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio expressed gratitude to the sponsors, emphasizing the crucial role education plays in national development.
