Leaked PDP Resignation Letter Not From Atiku – Spokesman
Paul Ibe, Media Adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has confirmed that the letter announcing Atiku’s resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was leaked.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Wednesday night, Ibe addressed the controversy surrounding the timing of the resignation, which coincided with the national mourning period following the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday.
He alleged that the leak was orchestrated by individuals opposed to Atiku’s political ambitions, including elements within the PDP and their allies in the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting the letter was not intended for public release.
“We’re in this situation because those who do not wish His Excellency Atiku Abubakar well deliberately leaked his private communication. Yes, it was leaked,” Ibe said.
He further criticised the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, for commenting on the matter, accusing him of abandoning pressing aviation challenges.
It’s unfortunate that the Minister of Aviation, who rather should be concerned with serious issues of aviation matters and there are plenty of them, like runways and better infrastructure, jumped into this fray as though knowing what caused an accident even before investigation,” Ibe said.
He insisted that the leak resulted from “rogue elements in the PDP working in cahoots with APC members,” stressing that the matter should not overshadow national reflection over Buhari’s death.
Responding to speculation surrounding Atiku Abubakar’s resignation, his media adviser questioned the credibility of those claiming to know the reasons behind the decision.
“Those claiming to know why he resigned—are they clairvoyants?” he asked. “I believe it’s more appropriate to focus on other matters, especially as the nation is still in mourning and the memory of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, who was just laid to rest yesterday, remains fresh.”
Atiku officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a letter dated July 14, 2025, addressed to his local ward chairman in Adamawa State. The letter, later made public by his media aide on X (formerly Twitter), cited “irreconcilable differences” and expressed his disappointment with the current direction of the party, which he said no longer aligns with founding ideals.
