Ogun Community Appeals to Abiodun for Infrastructural Improvements
Residents of Orile Imo community in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State have called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to prioritize infrastructural development in their area.
The community has experienced significant population growth and rapid expansion recently, largely due to the influx of companies establishing operations there. However, it continues to face challenges such as poor road networks, inadequate schools, and limited healthcare facilities.
This appeal was made during a press briefing held on Wednesday in Abeokuta to commemorate the first coronation anniversary of the Olu of Orile Imo, Oba Oluwambe Sogaolu.
Mr. Olusola Sowande, chairman of the planning committee for the anniversary event, highlighted that the community is struggling due to insufficient government attention and presence.
He said most of the visible infrastructure in the community were self-help projects.
“Our population has continued to explode with the influx of companies into our area.
“We need more primary schools because some children from remote areas have to travel 3km to come to school.
The only secondary school which went into extinction in 1984 was recently returned to us almost 40 years later.
We shall definitely appreciate it if the government can help us with more schools, roads, healthcare facilities, among other basic amenities that could enhance our socio-economic development,” he said.
Sowande lauded Oba Sogaolu, saying that the traditional ruler had been deploying his resources and influence to enhance the development of the community since he ascended the throne.
To strengthen the security architecture of the community, Sowande said the monarch built a police station that would be inaugurated during the coronation anniversary next week.
The chairman of the publicity committee of the anniversary, Deji Sowunmi, said the historic celebration marked a significant milestone in the life of Oba Sogaolu, whose ascension to the throne had brought about peace, development and unity of the people and the community.
Sowunmi said the anniversary had been designed to reflect the values the royal father placed on service to humanity, promotion of cultural harmony, infrastructural development, and well-being of the people, among others.
The one-week celebration, according to him, would feature free medical exercise for at least 1,000 people.
The health screening will cover diabetes, hypertension, malaria, typhoid, and other common ailments.
Other notable events during the anniversary include a public lecture by Professor Kayode Oyesiku, former Vice Chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education, a quiz competition among selected schools, the presentation of awards to deserving individuals, and the installation of new chiefs, among other activities.
