Government Organises Capacity-Building Training for Budget and Land Officials
The Lagos State Government has commenced a development training programme for budget and land officers, as well as public service spokespersons, as part of its third-quarter capacity-building initiatives.
Announced on Wednesday, the initiative reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to strategic human capital development within the public service.
Speaking on the importance of the programme, the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Afolabi Ayantayo, emphasized the need for the Lagos State Public Service to remain dynamic, adaptable, and responsive to the evolving demands of governance.
He further noted that the capacity-building exercises are not one-off events but are intentional and strategic efforts aimed at equipping public servants with the necessary skills and mindset to deliver effective and efficient services.
According to him, the support of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for continuous professional development across the service is a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to a high-performing public service.
A two-day training workshop was held for 100 public affairs officers on Grade Levels 13 to 17, under the theme, “Strategic Corporate Communication and Media Relations,” and it focused on equipping the PAOs with the tools, knowledge and techniques necessary to strengthen the state’s communication machinery, manage public perception and deepen citizen engagement.
In another session, 200 Budget and Planning Officers participated in a programme under the theme, “Budgeting and Fiscal Management.”
The training sessions were aimed at enhancing participants’ knowledge of modern budgeting methods, promoting fiscal discipline, and strengthening the implementation of performance-based budgeting.
In addition, 200 land officers received training in Land Documentation and Titling, an initiative designed to improve land administration, boost transparency, and expedite the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy and other land-related documents in Lagos State.
According to the statement, each training programme lasted a minimum of two days and was facilitated by professionals from the public and private sectors, as well as the academic community.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Establishments and Training, Olubusola Abidakun, described the initiative as part of a broader, ongoing effort to strengthen the capacity of the state’s public service workforce. She noted that the third-quarter training reflects a proactive strategy to cultivate a forward-thinking, responsive, and performance-oriented public service.
