Kaduna SDP Slams El-Rufai’s ‘Spurious’ Merger Claims with ADC
The Kaduna State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has rejected former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s claim that the party quietly merged its entire state structure into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.
In a statement on Monday, SDP State Chairman Adamu Idris called El-Rufai’s assertion “false, politically mischievous and designed to confuse voters.” He said the SDP remains fully organized in all 23 local government areas of Kaduna State and that no decision was ever made to dissolve or join the ADC.
Idris went on to criticize El-Rufai as “anti-democratic and self-serving,” accusing him of attempting to destabilize the SDP during his brief membership. Since El-Rufai’s departure, he said, the party has grown stronger as a genuine opposition force.
The rebuttal follows a Sunday announcement by the ADC coalition’s spokesman, Darius Kurah, who said a meeting led by El-Rufai agreed to fold several parties—including the SDP—into the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections. Idris dismissed those reports, saying the only people present at that meeting were “expelled members and impostors” with no authority to speak for the SDP.
“Those individuals do not represent us,” Idris insisted. “They are political jobbers masquerading as SDP members to curry favour with El-Rufai. Our supporters and the public should ignore them.”
He concluded by reassuring SDP backers that the party remains committed to democracy, good governance and offering a credible alternative to the ruling parties. “No amount of propaganda can derail our mission to rebuild SDP as a strong platform for the people of Kaduna and Nigeria.”
