Odulate Asserts LG Authority, Dissolves NTA Plank Market (Sawmill) and Itesiwaju International Market Executives , Ogijo, Over Policy Violations

The Executive Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Ogbeni Jubril Olasile Odulate, on Wednesday, led members of the Executive Council and Administrative Heads of the Council on a working visit to the NTA Plank Market (Sawmill) and Itesiwaju International Market, Ogijo.
The visit was aimed at resolving the ongoing administrative issues in the markets and ensuring full compliance with Local Government policies.
During the visit, Ogbeni Odulate reaffirmed that the Local Government remains the rightful authority over all markets within its jurisdiction, citing the Fourth Schedule, Section 1(e) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers Local Governments to establish, maintain, and regulate markets, motor parks, and slaughterhouses.
He expressed displeasure over the continued disregard for council directives by the leadership of both markets, despite several warnings, describing their actions as a violation of constitutional provisions.
Consequently, the chairman announced the immediate suspension of all executive activities of the NTA Plank Market and Itesiwaju International Market executives.
“The Local Government will henceforth take full charge of all market activities. We shall hold a series of meetings with key stakeholders to design a sustainable administrative framework, after which a caretaker committee will be constituted to manage the markets until peace, order, and compliance are fully restored,” Odulate said.
He restated his administration’s commitment to maintaining proper regulation and promoting peaceful coexistence across all markets under Sagamu Local Government in line with the principles of good governance.
