Nigeria National League Chairman, Mr. George Aluo, has praised the enthusiastic support of fans at the season opener held at Lafia City Stadium. The match marked the start of the 2025-26 NNL season, which kicked off on Saturday with an exciting fixture between FC Basira and Mighty Jets. FC Basira emerged victorious with a 3-1 win, showcasing their dominance early in the season.

 

The game was highlighted by standout performances from FC Basira’s midfield maestro, Abubakar Yusuf, who scored two goals in the fifth and thirty-ninth minutes, giving his team a commanding lead at halftime. Emmanuel Iliya added a third goal for FC Basira, sealing their victory. On the other hand, Mighty Jets managed to score a consolation goal through Peter Eneji.

 

Aluo expressed his excitement over the overwhelming attendance, emphasizing that the large crowd is a testament to the league’s growing appeal and quality. “I’m highly impressed with the large turnout of fans who came to cheer their team to victory in the opening match,” he said. “This kind of support shows that the league is attracting good attention and has a bright future.”
