Ogun State Set to Commission 250-Bed Medical Center of Excellence in December 2025
The Ogun State Medical Center of Excellence, also known as the 250-bed hospital in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, is on track for commissioning in December 2025.
Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun disclosed this during an inspection of the ongoing work at the facility, which was constructed but left incomplete by the previous administration. He revealed that the hospital will be managed by the Abuja Medical Center of Excellence, which partners with King’s College Hospital among other international institutions.
Abiodun emphasized that the Ogun State Medical Center of Excellence will serve as a ‘Spoke’ for the Abuja Medical Center of Excellence, positioning it as a key healthcare hub for the region. “We are eager to complete this project. The exterior is already looking impressive with landscaping, an entrance canopy, and a gate. Oxygen equipment is operational. I’ve instructed the team to increase manpower so we can begin operations within the next 2-3 weeks,” he stated.
He expressed his hope to personally commission the hospital in December, describing it as a Christmas gift to Ogun State. The governor acknowledged that the facility faced numerous civil, structural, and electrical engineering challenges, which have now been addressed.
Abiodun also revealed that the Abuja Medical Center of Excellence has expressed willingness to partner with the hospital, provided it is completed according to plan and operated by Healthshare. This partnership is expected to facilitate high-quality healthcare services, leveraging the international expertise of King’s College Hospital and other partners.
The governor highlighted that the new hospital would greatly reduce medical tourism and ease the burden on neighboring Lagos hospitals. “Currently, many residents travel to Lagos from Ogun, Oyo, Osun, and Ekiti states for advanced medical care. Once operational, this facility will provide a more convenient option for them,” he said.
To ensure effective management, the government signed a memorandum of understanding with Healthshare Services Limited through its public-private partnership office. “Partnering with Healthshare is the best way to ensure this hospital delivers the quality of service intended and is well-utilized,” Abiodun explained.
Healthshare’s project manager, Dr. Frank Etang, assured that the hospital will meet the December commissioning target. He noted that the basement, ground floor, radiology, laboratory, and consulting rooms for doctors and nurses are already in place. Currently, work is ongoing on the first floor, which includes the theater, ICU, and wards, and preparations for commiprogress.pppppare in progress.
