Free Drugs, Eye Glasses, and Check-Ups: Sagamu Benefits from Lafarge Africa PLC–RIDSCo Medical Initiative
Sagamu witnessed a renewed wave of hope and improved wellbeing as Lafarge Africa PLC, in collaboration with the Royal Initiative for the Development of Sagamu Community (RIDSCo), successfully hosted the 2025 Sagamu Community Medical Outreach—a two-day intervention dedicated to delivering free, comprehensive healthcare services to residents across the Remo communities.
Held on Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th November 2025 at the Remo Royal Event Center, Aafin Akarigbo, Ita-Oba, Sagamu, the outreach commenced at 09:00am each day. Hundreds of residents trooped in to benefit from the life-changing medical services offered at no cost.
The programme, fully sponsored by Lafarge Africa PLC, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to community wellbeing through impactful corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Its partnership with RIDSCo—a frontline community development organization—ensured that the outreach was well-structured, impactful, and accessible to all.
The event was efficiently coordinated by Mr. Teju Ogunjimi, an executive member of RIDSCo, who supervised the entire process, ensuring smooth crowd management, orderly registration, and seamless delivery of services throughout the two days.
A dedicated team of medical professionals provided a wide range of services including blood pressure checks, blood sugar testing, free malaria testing, eye examinations, and general consultations. Residents who tested positive for malaria received immediate counselling and free antimalarial medication, ensuring swift treatment and relief. These services were especially beneficial to elderly individuals and those managing chronic illnesses amid rising economic pressures.
One of the standout features of the outreach was the immediate provision of free medications based on test results and doctors’ recommendations. This ensured that beneficiaries not only received diagnoses but also the necessary treatments for recovery and long-term wellbeing.
The distribution of free corrective eyeglasses further added to the programme’s impact, particularly for artisans, traders, and senior citizens who rely heavily on vision in their daily activities.
On the first day, over 400 residents were attended to, and on the second day, the turnout grew to over 500 beneficiaries. In total, the outreach successfully provided free medical care to more than 1,000 Sagamu residents.
Representatives of Lafarge Africa PLC reiterated the company’s dedication to supporting host communities through initiatives that promote health, education, economic empowerment, and sustainable development. RIDSCo also expressed satisfaction with the turnout and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening grassroots development.
Beneficiaries described the outreach as timely, impactful, and deeply appreciated—especially at a period when many families are grappling with rising healthcare costs.
