Igbo Group Calls on Residents to Back SDP Candidate Obinna Simon in Upcoming Local Elections.
The Igbo Community Association has expressed strong support for Obinna Simon, popularly known as MC Tagwaye, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for the Ambuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship in the 2026 elections. During a conference in Abuja on Monday, Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, the association’s President-General, revealed that Simon has committed to tackling key issues affecting residents if elected.
Ellis-Ezenekwe highlighted that MC Tagwaye has vowed to put an end to double taxation within AMAC, a persistent problem that burdens many residents. He also pledged to address the frequent and often unnecessary demolitions carried out in the area, promising that such actions would be regulated legally and with compassion. “We studied his manifestos. Among other things is his desire to stop double taxation in AMAC. Needful demolitions will be handled with a human face,” he stated.
The association’s leader emphasized that these issues significantly impact the everyday lives of residents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). He stressed that supporting Simon is not just about ethnic solidarity but also about improving the welfare of all residents in AMAC.
Ellis-Ezenekwe called on residents to rally behind MC Tagwaye’s candidacy ahead of the upcoming elections scheduled for February 21, 2026. He urged the community to unite in backing the SDP candidate to bring about positive change and address longstanding grievances related to taxation and demolitions in the area. The endorsement signals growing support for Simon as a candidate committed to reforming local governance and easing residents’ burdens in Abuja’s AMAC.
