The Sokoto State Hisbah Board has sealed a hotel in the state capital due to allegations of accommodating underage girls on its premises. The decision was confirmed by Deputy Commander General Prof. Abubakar Usman Ribah on Tuesday, who explained that the action was taken after the hotel repeatedly violated regulations despite prior warnings.
Ribah stated that the hotel was found to have breached laws prohibiting the lodging of underage persons, describing the act as contrary to both moral and legal standards upheld by the Hisbah Board. The hotel had previously been cautioned and had entered into an agreement with the board and other hotel operators in Sokoto not to allow underage children to stay in their facilities.
“This is the second time such an offence has been recorded at the Executive Hotel, despite previous warnings and assurances by the management to desist from the practice,” Ribah said. The repeated violations prompted the board to take decisive action by sealing the hotel.
The Deputy Commander emphasized that the shutdown was necessary because the hotel failed to comply with directives issued by the Hisbah authorities and the conditions agreed upon during prior engagements with hoteliers across the state. He also highlighted that the Hisbah Board remains committed to enforcing regulations that uphold the religious and cultural morals of Sokoto.
Ribah reaffirmed the board’s dedication to maintaining public order and morality, noting that such enforcement measures are vital to safeguarding societal values. The move underscores the Hisbah Board’s ongoing efforts to curb immoral practices and ensure adherence to the state’s religious standards.
