Residents of Aiyepe Celebrate as Ogun State Government Officially Commissioned Long-Abandoned Road, Bringing Relief and Hope
Residents of Aiyepe road in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State have expressed joy and relief following the official commissioning of the long-abandoned Aiyepe Road by the Ogun State Government on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
The road, which had been in a deplorable condition for decades, was reconstructed under the administration of Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, in fulfilment of his promise to the people. The project was executed under the supervision of the Sagamu Local Government, led by its Chairman, Ogbeni Jubril Olasile Odulate.
The commissioning ceremony began with the arrival of the Governor and other top government officials, followed by the rendition of the national and Ogun State anthems and the formal introduction of dignitaries present at the event, marking the official commencement of the historic occasion.
Delivering the welcome address, the Commissioner for Works, Engineer Ade Akinsanya, expressed appreciation to the people and explained that the road construction began about six months ago. He noted that the poor state of the road had caused serious hardship for residents and commuters in the area. He urged the people of Aiyepe to make good use of the road, maintain it properly, and avoid dumping refuse on it. He concluded by thanking Governor Dapo Abiodun for his commitment to infrastructure development.
Goodwill messages were presented by various groups and stakeholders, including the President of Students in Sagamu and Remo, the President of Sagamu Youth Association, Mrs. Folashade Oduwaye, the Iyaloja of Sagamu, representatives of the various communities, the Executive Director of SLAVABOGU, the representative of the Akarigbo of Remoland — the Radanua of Idado — and the Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Ogbeni Jubril Odulate.
In his address, Governor Dapo Abiodun assured the people that his administration remains fully committed to aggressive infrastructural development across Ogun State. He revealed that several roads had already been completed and commissioned in different parts of the state, while many others are currently at various stages of construction. The Governor announced that his administration has adopted a policy of commissioning at least two completed roads every week as part of efforts to fast-track development. He explained that the massive road construction programme is aimed at improving connectivity, boosting economic activities, and ensuring even development across all zones of Ogun State, stressing that no part of the state would be left behind.
The event reached its climax with the official commissioning and tape-cutting of the Aiyepe Road by the Governor.
Among the dignitaries present were the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Mrs. Noimot Salako-Oyedele; the Radanua of Idado representing the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi; Oba Musiliu Oriyomi Soile Osiderumu I; Oba Musiuba Dauda Oseni, the Alakan of Ilakan Aiyepe; Oba Michael Adekoya, the Alaiye of Aba Aiyepe; the Executive Chairman of Odogbolu Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Oyetola Diya; the Special Adviser to the Governor, Hon. Biyi Adeleye; members of the Ogun State House of Assembly; the Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser; a former Deputy Speaker; and the Executive Director of SLAVABOGU, Engr. Olujimi Hotonu.
The commissioning of the Aiyepe Road marks a major milestone in the development of the area and brings long-awaited relief to residents and road users.
