Lafarge Africa PLC, RIDSCo Hold Community Day and Annual General Meeting in Sagamu
Lafarge Africa PLC, in partnership with the Royal Initiative for the Development of Sagamu Community (RIDSCo), on Tuesday, 27th January 2026, held its Community Day and Annual General Meeting at the Akarigbo Playground, Aafin Akarigbo, Ita-Oba, Sagamu, Ogun State.
The event brought together traditional rulers, community leaders, Lafarge executives, RIDSCo officials, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders from across Remoland.
Proceedings began with the introduction of dignitaries led by the Paramount Ruler and Akarigbo of Remoland Oba (Dr). Babatunde Adewale Ajayi. Others introduced included the Chairman of RIDSCo, Mr. Sammy Ogunjimi and members of the executive, the representative of the CEO of Lafarge Africa PLC, Mrs. Deola Grahams-Douglas, the Plant Manager, Mr. Adedeji Esan, traditional rulers, Baales, and beneficiaries of the programme.
The opening prayer was said by Reverend J.M.P. Ibikunle, followed by the rendition of the National and Ogun State anthems.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of RIDSCo, Mr. Sammy Ogunjimi, explained that the purpose of the gathering was to present the annual report and to celebrate the achievements recorded through the Community Day and Annual General Meeting. He thanked God and appreciated Lafarge Africa PLC, the Akarigbo of Remo, other traditional rulers, and the Akarigbo-in-Council for their continuous support.
He noted that while Lafarge provides the funds, RIDSCo supervises the disbursement to key sectors such as healthcare, education, skill acquisition, and other community development projects. He said the projects have continued to make meaningful impact in Sagamu but appealed for increased funding to enable more projects to be executed.
He also highlighted the education support programme, particularly at Muslim High School, Sagamu, and the bursary awards scheme for students.
The event featured a cultural dance performance by students of Muslim High School, Sagamu, and goodwill messages from stakeholders, including the school principal, Mrs. Hassan, who thanked Lafarge and RIDSCo for their consistent support.
Highlights of the Community Day and Annual General Meeting included the presentation of bursary awards totaling over ten million naira and the distribution of tools and equipment to beneficiaries trained in tailoring, hairdressing, welding, barbing, furniture making, makeup artistry, phone repair, and snail farming.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Africa PLC, Mrs. Deola Grahams-Douglas reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainable community development and continued partnership with host communities.
In his message from the throne, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba (Dr). Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, commended Lafarge and RIDSCo for their vision and dedication to the development of Sagamu and prayed for continued peace and prosperity in the land.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Sir Teju Ogunjimi, while the closing prayer was said by Mr. Habeeb Abdulsalam.
Dignitaries present included the Ewusi of Makun Kingdom, Oba Timothy Akinsanya; the Laguna of Agura, Oba Allinson Lukman; Oba Adesegun Joshua Emuren of Emure; members of the Akarigbo-in-Council, and other prominent personalities.
