Expecting 84-Year-Old Adeboye to Lead Protests Makes No Sense – Bamiloye
Popular gospel film producer and founder of Mount Zion Faith Ministries, Evangelist Mike Bamiloye, has defended the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, following criticisms over the cleric’s comments on Nigeria’s security situation.
Adeboye had sparked public debate after sharing a video in which he urged the Federal Government to issue a 90-day ultimatum to service chiefs to end terrorism or resign from office.
The video, originally recorded in November 2025, was reshared amid claims that the cleric had campaigned for a political party and opposed a planned protest against insecurity.
Reacting through his official Instagram page on Wednesday, Bamiloye criticised bloggers and commentators for misrepresenting Adeboye’s position, insisting that the cleric has consistently spoken against societal ills.
He wrote, “This is what he said, many Bloggers saw this, but they would project it. But he spoke against the evils.
“And for all those who are expecting an 84-year-old man, servant of God, to lead a protest against a government, this does not make sense by virtue of his age and by the mandate of his calling.”
Bamiloye also addressed comparisons with a 2020 protest march in which Adeboye participated during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to him, the action was not a personal political protest but a coordinated response by Christian organisations.
“And for all those who said he led a protest… it was the instruction of the CAN and PFN for every church to stage a protest against insecurity of the nation and he complied and led his denomination too, just as some other churches did.
“Our major responsibility as the Church of God is to continually pray for the peace of our nation and the intervention of God in the government,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the RCCG Public Relations team had earlier clarified that a viral photograph showing Adeboye holding a placard was taken during a peaceful prayer walk in 2020 under the Buhari administration and was not a political demonstration against former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The church also reiterated that Adeboye maintains a neutral political position and encourages members of different political parties to exercise their civic rights without endorsing any particular party.
