SAGAMU LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMAN INSPECTS ALLEGED ILLEGAL DUMPSITE AT SOTUBO FOLLOWING RESIDENTS’ DISTRESS CALLS
The Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, on Sunday, July 5, 2026, inspected and confirmed the existence of an illegal dumpsite at Sotubo following repeated complaints and distress calls from residents.
For several weeks, residents had been calling and sending videos to the Sagamu Local Government Secretariat, informing the authorities that trucks transporting waste from Lagos were dumping refuse at the location without the approval or authorization of the local government. The continuous dumping created serious environmental concerns and affected residents and commuters using the road.
During the inspection, the chairman confirmed that the location was being used as an unauthorized waste disposal site without the knowledge or approval of the Sagamu Local Government. Several trucks were seen at the site dumping waste. Among the vehicles observed were LAWMA PSP 24-262, LAWMA M026.N, LAWMA M003.N, Sarobol Nigeria Ltd, LAWMA M057.N, Kunlek Venture (LAWMA PSP Operator), LAWMA M056.N, LAWMA Mid Royals Global Services, and Century Cleaners 3C Company, alongside several others.
The chairman described the operation of the dumpsite as an unacceptable violation of government authority and environmental regulations, stressing that no individual, contractor, or company has the right to convert any location within Sagamu Local Government into a waste disposal site without the necessary government approval. He stated that the local government never designated or approved the site for waste disposal.
Residents welcomed the chairman’s visit, expressing hope that the illegal dumping would be stopped. They said the activities had resulted in offensive odours, environmental pollution, and health concerns for people living around the area, school in the area while also posing a nuisance to motorists and other road users.
The inspection reaffirmed Sagamu Local Government’s commitment to protecting its environment, enforcing the law, and ensuring that no individual or organization undermines the authority of the local government through unauthorized waste disposal activities.
