A Graceful Farewell: Celebration of Life for Late (Alhaja) Mujidat Dorcas Ogunnaike in Sagamu

The funeral service and celebration of life for Late (Alhaja) Mujidat Dorcas Ogunnaike was held on Friday, 30th May 2025, at 10:00 AM at 62:37 Events Place, Sagamu. It was a moment of reflection, reverence, and thanksgiving for a woman whose life touched many with grace, kindness, and unwavering faith.

The officiating ministers were from the Christ Apostolic Church Overcomers Assembly, Sagamu, and included notable men and women of God such as Pastor D.A. Olorunfunmi (Salem Zonal Superintendent), Pastor Ayo Osawere (Host, C.A.C. Overcomer’s Assembly, Soyindo, Sagamu), Pastor Samuel Oloruntola (District Superintendent, Fire Restoration, Sagamu), Pastor Gideon Agbebi (God is Faithful Church, GRA, Sagamu), Pastor C.K. Oyebode (HolyGhost Deliverance, Sagamu), Pastor J.A. Taiwo (DS, Palace of Light, Sagamu), and Lady Evangelist Titi Osawere. The service commenced with a session of soul-lifting praise and worship, hymns, and fervent prayers, followed by Bible readings and a message of exhortation. The biography of the dearly departed was read with heartfelt emotion by Akerele Ajewole, capturing her virtues, life story, and legacy.

The occasion was graced by an impressive gathering of royalty, political leaders, community stakeholders, family, and friends, who all came to pay their final respects. Among the dignitaries in attendance were Otunba Gbenga Daniel, former Governor of Ogun State and current Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Mrs. Funmilola Arikawe; Otunba Robert Adenaike; members of the Ayanperuwa and Akarigbo Royal Staff; traditional rulers including the Alagura of Agura, the Alariye of Ariye, the Onifojege of Fojege, the Alaye Ode of Ode, and the Oniraye of Iraye; as well as members of the Akarigbo-in-Council. Others included Otunba Fatai Sowemimo, Hon. John Obafemi, General Muyiwa Ogunnowo (rtd.), Aare Kola Oyefeso (Aare Gbogbo-gbo of Remo Land), Pastor and Mrs. Jibola Adebutu, Dr. Mrs. Abiola Olorode, Adeyinka Adeniran (Sapele M), Hon. Segun Okeowo, Prince Lekan Tejuosho, Otunba Segun Sowunmi, and Sup. Evangelist Fesojaiye, amongst others.

The vote of thanks was gracefully delivered by the last child of the deceased, Mr. Akinola Ogunnaike, who expressed deep gratitude to all present. This was followed by a joyous thanksgiving session led by the children and grandchildren, who danced and praised God in celebration of their mother and grandmother’s fulfilled life.

The body of Late Alhaja Mujidat Ogunnaike was then transported to her residence at Atoyo Owo Agbara, Sabo, Sagamu, where she was laid to rest in the presence of loved ones, relatives, and close friends.

The celebration continued at the reception, where the ambiance was one of elegance and cultural pride. The event was anchored by renowned Nigerian actor Kunle Afod, and the atmosphere was uplifted by powerful musical performances from Nigerian music legends, Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey and Queen Salawa Abeni. Their classic tunes added to the sense of nostalgia and celebration as family members and guests reminisced on the beautiful life of the matriarch.

Prominent royal fathers and traditional rulers were also in attendance, including His Royal Majesty Oba Dr. Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remo Land; the Alaye Ode of Ode; the Elepe of Epe; the Ariwajoye of Oderemo; the Sobaloju of Illisan; the Babalaje of Egbaland; Oba Sikiru Adeilo Adeiga, the Onirolu of Irolu; the Negbuwa of Ibido; the Eleposo of Eposo; the Alariye of Ariye; the Akunfon of Idarika, and many other respected Obas, Baales, and High Chiefs across Ogun State.

Also in attendance were Dr. Chief Mrs. Kehinde Arinola Sowemimo, Otunba Showunmi Segun, Hon. Kolawole Awolaja (House of Representatives, Remo North Constituency), Chief Adekoya (Mayegun of Iperu), and Barrister Ifashola (Olowo of Iperu), amongst many others whose presence added honor and prestige to the celebration.

The event concluded with the children of the deceased taking turns to grace the dance floor, rejoicing and celebrating the life and times of their beloved mother in a way that truly honored her legacy. It was a dignified, heartfelt, and memorable farewell to a woman who lived a fulfilled life, touched generations, and left behind a legacy of love, family, and faith.

May her soul continue to rest in perfect peace.
