Ogun State Governor and Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum, Dapo Abiodun, has extended his condolences to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, following the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.

The respected monarch died in the early hours of Monday at the age of 90.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, Governor Abiodun described the late Olubadan as a refined and cosmopolitan traditional ruler with a profound understanding of Yoruba culture and traditions.

He praised Oba Olakulehin as a peaceful and visionary leader whose reign fostered unity, harmony, and development across Ibadanland.

Governor Dapo Abiodun offered prayers for the peaceful repose of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin’s soul and strength for his family and the entire people of Ibadanland to bear the loss.

“On behalf of all Southern Governors, I extend my heartfelt condolences to His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, the Olubadan-in-Council, and all sons and daughters of Ibadan on the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin,” Abiodun said.

“Though his passing comes at a time when his wisdom and experience were still greatly needed, we are comforted by the fact that he lived a remarkable and impactful life—serving as a custodian of the rich traditions and cultural heritage of Ibadan and the Yoruba people at large.

May God grant Kabiyesi eternal rest as he joins his ancestors in the great beyond,” the statement concluded.
