ADC Leader Apostle Ayodele David-Adesua Vows Resilience Despite Attack on Party Secretariat in Ekiti
African Democratic Congress (ADC) leader and Ekiti State governorship hopeful, Apostle Ayodele David-Adesua, has reaffirmed the party’s unwavering commitment to capturing power in the state and steering it back onto the path of development. He emphasized that no amount of violence or intimidation can weaken their resolve.
In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, David-Adesua condemned the recent attack on the ADC Secretariat and its members. “I strongly condemn the barbaric burning of our newly established ADC Secretariat—an act driven by desperation, political cowardice, and intimidation,” he declared.
Reports indicate that hoodlums set fire to the ADC state secretariat in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, vandalized property, and assaulted party members in an apparent attempt to disrupt the inauguration of party executives at various levels.
Reacting to the incident, the ADC aspirant stated, “This attack is not just against a building but against the democratic will of the people of Ekiti who desire freedom from tyranny and misrule. Let it be known that no destruction or deceit will break our spirit. From these ashes, we will ‘Rescue, Rebuild, and Rise stronger, bolder, and more united.’ This cowardly act will only strengthen our determination to defend truth, uphold justice, and restore the dignity of our people.”
He further emphasized that they would not be deterred by agents of oppression or internal saboteurs exploiting chaos to cover their failures. “We will confront corruption with courage, tyranny with truth, and fear with faith. Our movement is driven by the people, unstoppable, and divinely guided. Together, we will rebuild what has been destroyed, rekindle hope, and reclaim Ekiti’s destiny. With resilience and unity, Ekiti shall rise again,” David-Adesua affirmed.
The incident drew condemnation from prominent figures, including Rauf Aregbesola, a former Minister of Interior and ADC National Secretary, who was in Ekiti for the party’s executive inauguration. Aregbesola described the attack as a shameful display of intolerance and a dangerous threat to democracy. “It is regrettable that individuals who emerged through the democratic process resort to violence and intimidation to silence opposition voices. Democracy thrives on freedom of association and open political participation without fear. The attack on ADC members in Ekiti signals a descent into fascism,” he said.
The Ekiti State Police Command has announced that a comprehensive investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled June 20, 2026, for the Ekiti State governorship election.
