Alaafin Names New Chief of Staff and Special Adviser
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has appointed a new chief of staff and a special adviser to the throne. The announcement was made by the former chief of staff, Rotimi Osuntola, in a statement released on Wednesday, titled “Re: My New Role as Special Adviser to His Imperial Majesty, The Alaafin of Oyo.”
Osuntola, who had served as chief of staff between January and early April 2025, has now been elevated to the position of special adviser. In the statement, he expressed his deep gratitude for the new responsibility bestowed upon him by Oba Owoade, acknowledging the privilege of serving the Oyo throne in any capacity deemed suitable by His Majesty.
Reflecting on his journey, Osuntola stated, “From the outset of His Majesty’s reign, I have had the honor of supporting him financially, intellectually, and morally, alongside many others committed to the ongoing legacy of the Alaafin.”
He highlighted the importance of his previous role as chief of staff, congratulating Mr. Bayo Ajibade, who will take over that position, and urged all individuals, both locally and internationally, to rally behind Ajibade in his new responsibilities.
Osuntola reaffirmed his dedication to the progress of Oyo and Yoruba land, promising to leverage his extensive leadership experience for the advancement of the community. He stated, “I will continue to serve the Alaafin, Oyo Kingdom, and particularly the Yoruba nation with the same commitment and sincerity that have guided my efforts.”
