ASUU Calls for Justice Over Killing of UI Professor
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ibadan chapter, has called on President Bola Tinubu and the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba, to track down the killers of Professor Opeyemi Ajewole, a Professor of Social and Environmental Forestry Development at the University of Ibadan. Ajewole was murdered by unknown gunmen in the Orogun community, Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State.
ASUU-UI Chairman, Ayo Akinwole, condemned the murder and urged security operatives to apprehend the perpetrators of the crime to unravel the motive behind the incident. He emphasized that the only tribute that Ajewole deserves is justice, adding that his killing reminds Nigerians of how valueless human lives have become in the country.
The killing of Ajewole has sparked outrage among members of the academic community in Nigeria. ASUU-UI has called on the government to ensure that justice is served and that the culprits are brought to book. The incident has once again highlighted the security challenges facing Nigeria and the need for urgent action to address them.
