Benue Community in Fear as Herders Launch Fresh Attack
Residents of the Otobi community in the Akpa district of Otukpo Local Government Area in Benue State were gripped by panic on Tuesday evening following a fresh attack by suspected armed herders, which has left several people feared dead and hundreds displaced.
In a distressed phone call to journalists, local resident Edwin Emma reported the assault, saying, “We are being attacked by herdsmen at Otobi community. My wife and children are fleeing as I speak. Please call for help.”
Kennedy Angbo, the lawmaker representing the Otukpo-Akpa constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly, also confirmed the incident, noting that the attack began around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. He revealed that three bodies had already been recovered, with fears of more fatalities. “Right now, many people are feared dead, and hundreds have fled the community,” Angbo stated.
This attack marks the third incident in Otobi in just April alone, raising serious concerns among residents about the escalating insecurity in the region.
