Bobrisky Remains in Ikoyi Prison, Officials Confirm

Officials from the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) have debunked rumors suggesting that controversial figure Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, was transferred from Ikoyi Custodial Centre to Kirikiri Prison. Reports had surfaced indicating Bobrisky’s clandestine relocation to Kirikiri over the weekend to complete his six-month prison sentence for naira abuse. However, an anonymous NCoS source clarified that Bobrisky remains in Ikoyi prison, emphasizing that his offense did not warrant placement in a maximum-security facility like Kirikiri, typically reserved for capital offenses.

The source explained, “Bobrisky has not been moved; he is still here in Ikoyi. He did not commit a capital offense, so why would they take him to Kirikiri?” Another official highlighted ongoing considerations for potential inmate transfers across correctional centers in Lagos State, primarily aimed at decongesting overcrowded facilities. However, the decision to relocate inmates remains under review, with factors such as proximity to family, health considerations, and space management guiding the process.

Efforts to reach Rotimi Oladokun, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Command of the NCoS, for comment were unsuccessful. Bobrisky’s arrest and subsequent conviction stemmed from allegations of naira abuse during a public event. Despite pleading guilty to the charges, Bobrisky expressed remorse and pledged to educate his social media followers about the laws governing currency handling in Nigeria. As the controversy surrounding his case continues, Bobrisky’s adherence to prison rules and regulations remains under observation, with authorities affirming his continued detention at Ikoyi Custodial Centre.
