Businessman Alleges Wrongful Detention Over Land-Grabbing Case in Ogun State

A businessman in Ogun State, Mr. Dare Awodele, has accused men of the Ogun State Police Command of wrongfully detaining him over a land-grabbing case he knew nothing about. The case involves a landed property at Agejo village in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state said to belong to the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation.

Awodele refuted the land-grabbing allegation and explained that he honoured the invitation of the state task force who invited him for questioning over the OGBC land matter. Retired CP, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, who was present at the station, said the issue did not concern him and Iyeru, that the people who sold the land should be held to sort themselves out. Despite this, Awodele was detained with others and spent a night at the station on a matter he knew nothing about.

The Ogun State Police Command has not yet released a statement regarding the matter. However, Awodele’s wrongful detention is an unfortunate reminder of the many cases of wrongful arrests and detentions in Nigeria. It is important for law enforcement agencies to ensure that their investigations are thorough and that innocent people are not unjustly detained.
