Captain Troost-Ekong: Super Eagles Prepared for Musona’s Offensive Challenge from Zimbabwe

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has reassured fans that the team is fully prepared to face Zimbabwe’s attacking prowess, particularly the threat posed by Knowledge Musona, in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier taking place in Uyo on Tuesday.

Musona, who was called back to the national team by coach Michael Nees, demonstrated his capabilities by scoring in Zimbabwe’s recent 2-2 draw against Benin. However, Troost-Ekong stressed that the Nigerian squad is focusing on the overall strength of the Zimbabwean team rather than just individual players.

“Yes, we are aware of their capabilities. We have analyzed game footage and I have faced some of their players during my club career,” Troost-Ekong stated at the pre-match press conference. “Every team in Africa presents a challenge. Our focus will remain on ourselves. We understand their playing style and will be tactically prepared.”

The former Watford defender also commended Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle for his insightful tactics and infectious ambition. “We’ve had excellent coaches in the past, but now we have someone whose drive matches ours,” Troost-Ekong remarked.

Chelle will be looking to secure another win to strengthen Nigeria’s bid for qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
