CATHOLIC BISHOPS FAULT FG:ASUU STRIKE

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has been engaged in a protracted strike since seven months ago. The Nigerian Catholic Bishops have criticized the Federal Government’s response.

This information was provided in a communiqué that was released following the Second Plenary Meeting of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), which took place at the Sacred Heart Pastoral/Retreat Center, Orlu, Imo State, from September 8–16, 2022.

“But we think that going to court might not be the best and quickest method to handle the issue. We therefore reiterate our request to the Federal Government and the ASUU to find a more expeditious and effective means of resolving the issues at hand so that public universities can reopen.

The Bishops also urged governments to implement appropriate legislation and create an atmosphere that encourages job growth because doing so will lower the country’s degree of poverty, instability, and unrest.
