Celebration of Life for Late Alhaja Moriliat Abeke Balogun (a.k.a Iya Teko)
The 62:37 Event Centre in Shagamu, Ogun State, was filled with love, memories, and reverence on Friday, 11th July 2025, as family, friends, dignitaries, and community members gathered to celebrate the remarkable life of Late Alhaja Moriliat Abeke Balogun, affectionately known as Iya Teko.
The event was a beautiful blend of solemnity and celebration, reflecting the grace and impact of the departed matriarch whose life touched many across generations.
Proceedings began with an opening Islamic prayer, which set a reflective and respectful atmosphere. From that moment, it became clear the day would not only be about mourning but about honouring a woman who had lived a life full of love, sacrifice, and unshakable loyalty to both family and community.
A powerful and emotional moment came when her granddaughter, Sukurat Akinsanya, delivered a heartfelt tribute. Her words painted a vivid picture of Alhaja Moriliat’s life—her warmth, wisdom, strength, and the irreplaceable space she held in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Sukurat’s voice, though laced with emotion, spoke boldly of the void her grandmother’s passing had created and the indelible legacy she left behind.
The turnout was a strong testament to the life Alhaja lived. The venue was filled with people from different walks of life, including family members, political associates, and a broad range of social clubs, women’s forums, and community groups who came out in numbers to show their respect and admiration.
Social clubs like the Decent Sisters, Golden Mothers, Rolling Dollar, Omolade, Pink Ladies, and several others stood united in their vibrant colours and matching outfits, paying homage to one of their own. Also in attendance were well-recognized platforms like the Olufunsho Amosun Women’s Forum, the SIA Mewa Movement, and APC support groups across Sagamu Local Government. The presence of the Jekami Family and other cultural associations added more colour and cultural significance to the day.
A particularly significant highlight was the presence of Senator Ibikunle Amosun, former Governor of Ogun State, whose attendance further emphasized the weight of Alhaja Moriliat’s influence in political and social circles. In his speech, Senator Amosun expressed deep appreciation to everyone who played a role in organizing a befitting farewell. He described the late Alhaja as “a loyalist to the core, a woman of honour, and someone who never hesitated to give her all for the people she loved.” He prayed for God’s continued blessings upon her children, urging them to remain united in preserving her legacy. He also thanked the party faithfuls and supporters who stood by the family during the mourning period.
The event was not just a gathering but a joyful celebration of a well-lived life — one filled with kindness, compassion, and commitment to community. The atmosphere was vibrant, with music, tributes, and shared memories flowing freely.
Food and refreshments were served, and the decor reflected both cultural pride and deep respect for the deceased.
