Chief (Mrs.) Olasonde Oduwaiye, a prominent figure in the community and former Iyaloja of both Falawo Market and Sagamu Markets, has been formally inaugurated as the Iyaloja General of Remoland. This grand ceremony took place on April 11, 2025, at the Royal Hall within the distinguished Akarigbo Palace in Sagamu. The installation was officiated by His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, CFR, Torungbuwa II, the Paramount Ruler of Remoland.
The event was a significant affair that drew a multitude of honored guests, dignitaries, and community members eager to celebrate the elevation of Chief Oduwaiye to this esteemed position. Among the notable attendees was Her Excellency Engr. Noimot Salako Oyedele, the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, who offered her support and congratulations. The presence of His Excellency Otunba Gbenga Daniel, a Senator from Ogun East, highlighted the political importance of the ceremony and the broader implications for the region.
Other distinguished guests included Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, the spouse of the Ogun State Governor, Hon. Ola Oresanya, the Commissioner for Environment, and Hon. Funmi Efuwape, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Ogun State. Hon. Adijat Adeleye, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, also graced the occasion. Additionally, Ogbeni Afolabi Odulate, the Executive Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Asiwaju s.k Onafowokan, and various leaders and representatives from different associations were present to lend their support.
The ceremony was also attended by members of the Erelu Remo-in-Council, esteemed Iyalojas from across Remoland, Ijebu land, Yewa and Abeokuta in Ogun State. The gathering of so many traditional rulers from Remoland reinforced the cultural significance of the day and the importance of Chief Oduwaiye’s new role in promoting and preserving the traditions and commerce of the region.
As the newly appointed Iyaloja General of Remoland, Chief Oduwaiye will be tasked with overseeing the market activities and ensuring the welfare of traders within her jurisdiction. The role carries substantial responsibility, and her extensive experience within the community through her previous positions is expected to greatly benefit the region’s merchants and entrepreneurs. The auspicious ceremony marked not only a personal milestone for Chief Oduwaiye but also a significant step towards empowering women in leadership roles within Ogun State and beyond.
HRM Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi advised the newly crowned Iyaloja General to lead with love and unity, encouraging reconciliation and harmony among all market stakeholders, and to let bygones be bygones.
The celebration was brought to life with a melodious performance by Omooba Rilly1 Ayinde and his band, as Chief (Mrs.) Oduwaiye and her family danced joyfully to the rhythm.
