Chieftaincy Conferment Ceremony of Chief (Mrs.) Olasumbo Bamidele-Nelly as Iyaloja-General of Sagamu Local Government

The Chieftaincy Conferment Ceremony of Chief (Mrs.) Olasumbo Bamidele-Nelly as the Iyaloja-General of Sagamu Local Government took place on Wednesday, 21st May 2025, at the Akarigbo’s Palace, Ita Oba, Sagamu, Ogun State. The event commenced at 11:00 AM and was presided over by His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, CFR, LLM, BL, FCA, FBR (Torungbuwa II), the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland.

The ceremony was organized to officially install Chief (Mrs.) Bamidele-Nelly as the Iyaloja-General in recognition of her dedication, leadership, and contributions to market development and community service within the Sagamu axis and the larger Remo region.

The event was blessed by His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland. ,several traditional rulers,the Oloris,chiefs, political figures, market stakeholders, family members, and well-wishers. Adebayo   – Negbuwa of Ibido who came out in full support to celebrate one of their own. The ceremony featured traditional rites, prayers, cultural performances, and goodwill messages from guests.

Series of interviews were conducted by REMOTV to capture the thoughts and reactions of those closest to the celebrant and the community she serves.

Mr. Adelana Seye, the Babaloja of the NNPC Community, praised the new Iyaloja-General as a woman of humility, generosity, and leadership. In his words:“She is very nice and very good to us. She is accommodating and supportive. She deserves this title without a doubt. We’ve watched her over the years and seen how well she treats people. I pray for long life, good health, and wealth for her. May she enjoy this new role with joy and wisdom.”

In addition, interviews were conducted with several Iyalojas and Babalojas from different parts of Remo land.The consensus among them was overwhelmingly positive.They spoke of her kindness, approachability, and commitment to the market community. Many described her as a bridge-builder and a woman who uplifts others. There was strong confidence expressed in her ability to carry out her duties as Iyaloja-General with grace and effectiveness.

Mrs. Adetoro Bamidele-Nelly, the daughter-in-law of the celebrant, described her as a hardworking and selfless woman. She said:

“Mummy is simply amazing. She has always been a strong force in the family and community. She works tirelessly without seeking praise and is always thinking of how to help others. I am happy for her and proud of this recognition. I pray that God strengthens her and blesses her more.”

Her husband, Otunba Bamidele-Nelly, also shared his thoughts, expressing admiration and support for his wife’s achievements. He stated:

“This chieftaincy title is well deserved. My wife has been actively involved in market leadership and community engagement long before this official recognition. She has been going up and down, handling matters with dedication and courage. I know her very well—she is capable, focused, and will serve diligently in this new role. I’m proud of her and happy for what this moment means to our family and the people.”

The ceremony concluded on a joyous note, with music, dancing, and expressions of gratitude. The conferment of the title of Iyaloja-General on Chief (Mrs.) Olasumbo Bamidele-Nelly is seen not only as a personal achievement but as a victory for the entire market community in Sagamu. It marks a significant milestone in strengthening women’s leadership and the development of market systems across the local government.
