Coach Abdul Maikaba has left Rangers International after the expiration of his contract. In a statement, he said he would not re-negotiate his two-year contract that just ended after the Federation cup final in Asaba. He thanked the government of Enugu State, management, players, coaches, and other staff for their cooperation while his contract lasted. He further stated that pressures from the family front need his attention.
Coach Maikaba joined Rangers International in 2019 and led the team to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup in his first season. He also guided the team to the semi-finals of the Federation Cup in his second season. He is widely regarded as one of the best coaches in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) and has been linked with a move to other top clubs in the country.
Rangers International, in a statement, thanked Coach Maikaba for his service to the club and wished him all the best in his future endeavors. The club also announced that they have started the process of finding a replacement for Coach Maikaba and will make an announcement in due course. Rangers International finished fourth in the NPFL last season and will be hoping to improve on that performance in the upcoming season.
