Commuters Urge for Replacement of Damaged Road Barricade to Avert Accidents in Ogun

Commuters in the Panseke area of Abeokuta South Local Government Area, Ogun State, have raised concerns and appealed to the Ogun State Government for the swift replacement of a damaged barricade under a pedestrian bridge. The commuters fear that the dilapidated state of the barricade could lead to accidents and potential loss of lives.

Some commuters expressed their distress, revealing that the sorry condition of the bridge has compelled them to abandon its use, resorting to crossing the road directly amid speeding vehicles. Observations in the area revealed that the metal barricade, designed to secure the median, had suffered damage, with some portions either removed or on the verge of collapsing.

A commuter identified as Rilwan highlighted the urgency of fixing the damaged barricade, emphasizing that it was constructed with taxpayers’ money and should not be left in its current state. He voiced concerns about the possibility of road accidents if the barricade is not promptly repaired.

Another commuter, Peter Godwin, pointed out that environmental pollution around the bridge has driven people to bypass it entirely, jeopardizing their safety by crossing the road. He urged the Ogun State Government to address both the condition of the bridge and the environmental issues contributing to public health concerns.

Efforts to obtain a reaction from the Ogun State Commissioner for Works, Ade Akinsanya, were unsuccessful as messages sent to his WhatsApp went unanswered, and attempts to reach him by phone proved futile as the calls did not connect. Commuters hope for swift government intervention to ensure the safety and well-being of those utilizing the affected pedestrian bridge.
