Customs Seize Firearms, 1,433 Live Cartridges in Ogun

The Ogun 1 Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted a cache of illegal arms, including 1,433 rounds of live cartridges and five Dane guns, during operations conducted across various locations in Ogun State.

The Area Comptroller, Mr. Godwin Otunla, made this known on Wednesday during the official handover of the seized items to the Nigeria Police Force in Idiroko.

Otunla explained that the interception was the result of intensified surveillance, strategic deployment of intelligence, and enhanced collaboration with other security agencies. He said the operation reflects the NCS’s renewed commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensuring internal security.

“In line with national security protocols and our inter-agency synergy, the Ogun 1 Area Command is formally handing over these seized arms and ammunition to the Nigeria Police Force, Ogun State Command, for thorough investigation and further necessary actions,” Otunla said.

He emphasized that the Nigeria Customs Service is not only focused on revenue generation but also plays a critical role in national security by combating smuggling and intercepting dangerous items that could threaten public safety.

According to the Area Comptroller, the Service has intensified its crackdown on illegal arms trafficking and other forms of cross-border criminal activities, particularly in border communities known for high smuggling activities.

Otunla also commended the officers and men of the command for their dedication and vigilance, while urging the public to support security agencies with credible information that could help prevent crime and maintain peace in the region.

He concluded by reaffirming the Service’s unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and property of Nigerians through proactive enforcement and strengthened inter-agency cooperation.
