Dapo Abiodun Reaffirms Commitment to Safety and Security, Donates Vehicles to Amotekun Corps
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents, emphasizing the importance of discipline and integrity among security operatives.
During an event in Abeokuta, the state capital, on Friday, where new operational vehicles and motorcycles were handed over to the state’s Amotekun Corps, Governor Abiodun, represented by his Chief of Staff, Toyin Taiwo, warned the operatives against misconduct, including extortion and harassment of the public. He urged them to maintain professionalism, respect for human rights, and a strong sense of duty, stating that their uniforms represent public trust.
“These operational vehicles symbolize our unwavering commitment to a safer Ogun State. However, the real effectiveness of our security operatives lies in their discipline, professionalism, and intelligence,” Abiodun said in his speech. “I charge Amotekun operatives to conduct themselves with the highest level of integrity and fairness. The uniform you wear is a symbol of trust, so never betray the confidence placed in you by the public.”
The governor stressed that his administration has zero tolerance for abuse of power and that security work should never be an avenue for exploitation or oppression. He emphasized that Amotekun operatives must avoid abusing their positions and focus on serving the people with respect and diligence.
Abiodun also pointed out that the strength of the Amotekun Corps lies in effective intelligence gathering, urging the operatives to work closely with community leaders to report any suspicious activities. He commended the corps for its role in supporting other security agencies in intelligence gathering, community policing, and rapid response efforts.
The governor assured the operatives that the government would continue to provide the necessary resources to support their work and enhance their effectiveness in combating crime. He also encouraged them to take good care of the newly provided vehicles.
In his remarks, the Ogun Amotekun Corps Commander, Brig. Gen. Alade Adedigba (retd.), thanked Governor Abiodun for fulfilling his promise to strengthen the corps. He noted that since his appointment in August of the previous year, the government had approved the recruitment of 700 new operatives, with another 1,000 currently undergoing recruitment. He also highlighted that the new vehicles and motorcycles were in addition to those provided last year.
Adedigba assured Ogun residents that the corps would intensify its efforts to ensure their safety and security, guaranteeing that they could sleep peacefully knowing their protection was prioritized.
