The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, accusing it of failing to deliver good governance in the state.
In a Democracy Day statement signed by its chairman, Abayomi Tella, the PDP condemned the Abiodun administration for what it described as incompetence, nepotism, and a lack of transparency in managing the state’s affairs.
The party described six years of governance under Abiodun as uneventful as the state can not boast of accelerated road construction and rehabilitation across urban and rural areas, while schools and health centers remain in their deplorable condition despite the huge earnings accruing to the state.
Tella revealed that the completion of major projects inherited from previous administration and new ones promised during the electioneering campaigns, such as Agro-Cargo Airport, road networks linking Ogun with Lagos) are still not in place despite the enormous revenues and earnings of this administration.
The party stated that “Instead, what we have is lopsided execution of infrastructure, with more focus on Iperu and its surroundings, while rural areas like Ogun Waterside, Imeko, Yewa North, Ipokia local government areas remain largely neglected.
“Several campaign projects have either stalled or remained on paper, with a limited visible impact on the grassroots”.
Tella said that there has been no improved access to quality healthcare and rehabilitation of primary healthcare as most public health services are completely abandoned, owing largely to lack of medical personnel
On education, the opposition party alleged that despite the government’s claims of school rehabilitation, improved teacher welfare, and digital learning support, public schools in rural areas still rely heavily on self-help efforts by local communities. This, the PDP said, has contributed to the growing number of out-of-school children in those areas.
Regarding youth empowerment and job creation, the party described many of the state’s initiatives as superficial and accused the administration of using empowerment schemes as a cover to divert public funds into private hands.
The PDP also criticised the administration’s poor communication with citizens, limited town hall engagements, and alleged nepotism in project siting and employment processes.
“Public contracts lack transparency, with no detailed breakdowns of infrastructure spending. A clear example is the recently concluded Gateway Games,” the statement said.
“Despite repeated calls for the disclosure of the festival’s financial details in the interest of accountability, the Abiodun-led APC government ignored them. Democracy has suffered, and Ogun State has suffered even more under the clueless leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun,” the party stated.
However, PDP Chairman Abayomi Tella urged residents not to lose hope, assuring them that a brighter future is near—one that will wipe away their tears.
When contacted for a response, the Special Adviser to Governor Abiodun on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, said, “I will get back to you.”
