Democracy Day: Sagamu LG Chairman Pledges People-centred Governance
As Nigerians across the country celebrate Democracy Day, the Executive Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Ogbeni Jubril Olasile Odulate, has emphasized that true democracy goes beyond political systems and must be seen in the everyday lives of the people.
In a message to mark the occasion, Odulate described democracy as a “hard-earned voice” that must be honoured not just with policies, but with purpose and presence. “Democracy, for us in Nigeria, is more than a system. It is a hard-earned voice. A voice that speaks in our streets, in our homes, and at every ballot box,” he said.
He stressed that the spirit of democracy must guide leadership at all levels, especially in Sagamu. “Every decision we take, every project we pursue, and every promise we make must reflect the will and welfare of the people,” the chairman stated.
Odulate also saluted citizens, voters, community leaders, and the youth for their continued belief in participation and nation-building. “I salute every citizen, every voter, every community leader, and every youth who continues to believe in the power of participation,” he said.
He concluded by urging unity and progress, noting that the efforts of past heroes must never be forgotten. “Let’s keep moving forward together, and for each other, so that the labours of our heroes that passed will never be in vain,” he added.
