EFCC Prosecutes and Convicts Two Men Over N8.56bn Cyber Fraud in Lagos.
In a landmark judgment, Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos Special Offences Court has convicted and sentenced two individuals, Hamza Zakaria and Nurudeen Ibrahim, to 26 months imprisonment each for their roles in a massive N8.56 billion cyber fraud.
The duo was found guilty of hacking into the computer systems of a new-generation bank, gaining unauthorized access to sensitive information and committing financial crimes.
The trial began on May 2, 2025, with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prosecuting the suspects on four-count charges, including conspiracy, stealing, and unlawful access to a computer system.
The court found the defendants guilty of the charges, which were allegedly committed in breach of Section 34 of the Cybercrime Act.
The judgment is a significant victory for the EFCC in its efforts to combat cybercrime and protect financial institutions from cyber threats. The sentences handed down by the court serve as a deterrent to others who may engage in similar activities.
