Ex-Super Eagles Striker Ideye Announces Retirement from Football
A former Super Eagles forward, Brown Ideye, has retired from professional football after a long and successful career that spanned over a decade.
This announcement follows Ideye’s departure from two-time African Champions League winners Enyimba last season.
In a heartfelt message shared on Tuesday, the forward explained that his decision came after careful thought and reflection, describing it as a moment of “mixed emotions.”
The 36-year-old expressed sincere gratitude to all who supported his football journey, including agents, sports journalists, coaches, teammates, and fans who stood by him through both the highs and lows.
Over the course of his career, Ideye played across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, featuring for prominent clubs such as Dynamo Kyiv, West Bromwich Albion, Olympiakos, among others.
Most notably, Ideye was part of the Super Eagles squad that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in South Africa under late coach Stephen Keshi, etching his name in Nigerian football history.
Reflecting on those moments, he said the game gave him everything: “incredible joy, sad days, the opportunity to travel and see the world, lifelong friendships, and so many unforgettable memories.”
Ideye also thanked Nigeria for the opportunity to represent the country, saying it was an honour to wear the national colours and be part of the Super Eagles.
Although retiring from professional football, Ideye assured that the sport will always remain a part of his life as he looks ahead to the next chapter.
His retirement marks the end of a remarkable era in Nigerian football, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, resilience, and achievement that is sure to inspire future generations of players.
